Playmates: Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Mix ‘N Match Mutations

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles you remember from “Mutant Mayhem” will be returning this August as part of a streaming show on Paramount+ called “Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.” In celebration of the new show Playmates is bringing back the Mix ‘N Match Mutations feature we last saw in 2014.

The first wave of Mix ‘N Match will consist of the four brothers: Donatello, Leonardo, Raphael, and Michelangelo. In addition to them there will be Splinter and Metalhead, as well as two new robots named Bishop and Mechazoid. They all come with various parts and you can swap them around onto any head, arm, or leg socket you wish. This feature is especially exciting with the robots because you can build a nice varied army of them, or just make body-horror turtles with heads for legs, the choice is yours!

Collectors are a hard to please bunch, but there is some satisfaction in giving Donatello a robot arm.

The new vehicles are neat! When I first opened the package Playmates sent me I was surprised to see that Rocksteady was a Mutant Mayhem holdover. I like him quite a bit, I’ll be adding him to my personal John Cena action figure collection. The bike works well, it’s balanced and Rocksteady is articulated enough to ride it perfectly. Both vehicles include missile/rocket launching play features because shooting a projectile across the room is just the best kind of fun. The Purple Dragon Cycle is branded as Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles but the included Raphael is not of the Mix ‘N Match variety. It’s a nice Raphael with a unique biker helmet and gloves, just like Rocksteady he looks great riding his vehicle.

The Mix ‘N Match Turtles as well as the bikes will be showing up in Target stores first, you may even luck into seeing them sooner than later as I’ve heard some reports of them already showing up in stores.
